The Victim Witness Division is mandated by law to inform victims of violent crime of their rights and available services. We do this by sending each victim a packet of information including the Victim Impact Statement and the "Your Rights as a Crime Victim" brochure. The brochure is designed to answer questions regarding court proceedings, Crime Victims' Compensation, and who to contact for assistance.

The Victim Impact Statement is very important because it is your way of informing the prosecutor and judge of the impact of the crime on you and your family. In felony cases, it is also used by the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles to determine eligibility for parole. Crime Victims' Compensation is a program designed to pay expenses for counseling or medical services that are not covered by insurance. In cases of family violence and sexual assault within the home, it can also help with moving expenses.

The Victim Witness Division is always available for questions or court accompaniment. We also maintain the Victims' Waiting Room, which is a safe and comfortable room away from the courtroom, for those victims waiting to testify during the trial. If you have questions regarding any of the above, please feel free to call us. We can be reached at 903-935-8408 Monday through Thursday, from 8 am to 5:00 pm and on Friday from 8am to 4:30 pm.
